Anubis (鬼魔将・朱天童子 Ogre Demon General Shutendouji) is the former leader of the Dark Warlords. Once known as the Dark Warlord of Cruelty, Anubis broke free of The Dynasty's evil and succeeded the Ancient One as the Ronin Warriors guide.

Anubis is voiced by Paul Dobson in the English dub and by Kiyoyuki Yanada in the original Japanese.

Appearance and Personality[]

Anubis has long, red hair and blue eyes. While he is the Dark Warlord of Cruelty, he is solely seen in his armor and undergear. When he is freed from Talpa's control by the Ancient One, he starts wearing the robes of the ancient monk. Anubis' armor is dark gray and blue.

While working for the Dynasty, Anubis' ego and strength rivaled that of Kento's. There wasn't much respect between him and the other Warlords. In fact, Anubis was the most criticized about his failures. But as time goes on and he begins to understand the truth, he summons the courage to stand against Talpa. After deciding to follow the path of the Ancient One, Anubis spends much time meditating and does his best to make up for his past mistakes.

Biography[]

Early History[]

Anubis was a soldier during the era of civil wars. He was power hungry and desired nothing more than to control everything. Sensing his cruel heart, Talpa appeared before him and made him the Dark Warlord of Cruelty.

The War with Talpa[]

At the start of the series, Anubis was one of the four Dark Warlords that served Talpa. He makes his debut when the Ronin Warrior's have gathered together and declares that the teen's will not be successful in their attempts to stop the Dynasty. For several battles, Anubis faced off against the Ronin Warrior's and met defeat several times.

Armor and Powers[]

Anubis attacks!

The Armor of Cruelty, or the Armor of the Ogre, is a representation of the Spring season. It draws its evil power from dark thoughts and the excess energy it absorbs. The design is similar to the Five Elemental armors rather than the other three Season armors. Its weapon is a kusari-gama, which is a scythe connected to a clawed weight by a metal chain. Its specialty attack is Ko Rai Sei (which translates as "Red Lightning," but is changed to "Quake with Fear" in the English dub). In the middle of the season, his helmet is destroyed, revealing that Talpa's commanding warriors were in fact humans. Following this revelation, Anubis never appeared with his helmet equipped again, save for two instances in which it vanished as quickly as it appeared.

If used for good, Anubis' armor could bring peace to humanity.

Relationships[]

  • Ryo of the Wildfire: Anubis' main rival of the five Ronin's. Before Anubis' change to good, they often fought one another. After Anubis succeeded the Ancient One, he earned Ryo's trust and alliance in the fight against the Dynasty and Talpa.
  • Talpa: While fighting for the Dynasty, Anubis loyally served Talpa and often times pushed himself to succeed so he could please the Nether world ruler. Once Anubis began having a change of heart, he saw Talpa for the evil force he really is and vowed to do whatever he could to help stop him.
  • The Ancient One: When Anubis began to switch from evil to good, he received help from the Ancient One on making that choice as well as seeing Talpa for the evil he truly is. After he succeeded the Ancient One, Anubis often gives gratitude to the Ancient for his change and does his best to make him proud.
